BLACKMAGIC DESIGN
More than 30 new features included in this new release of DaVinci Resolve. These include a new curve-based grading tool (hue, saturation or luminance curve); realtime Noise Reduction; a new Multi-Track Timeline with editing; XML Import and Export; AAF import; ALE Export; Image Stabilisation; Native support for CinemaDNG, Red Epic 5k, Open CL Processing, allowing Resolve run on the latest Apple iMac and MacBook Pros; automatic stereoscopic 3D image alignment tools; Support for the Avid Artist control panel.

Version 8 is a free upgrade to existing users and expected to ship before June. Also announced was DaVinci Resolve Lite, a free download with a limited feature set, and this be available soon after DaVinci Resolve 8 ships.

THE FOUNDRY
The Foundry demonstrated their latest release of Nuke and NukeX, Version 6.2, which is proving equally as popular do commercial and episodic work as well as being the defacto standard in compositing in studios of all sizes.
Also on show was a preview of NUKE 6.3 which provides new tools, reducing the need to leave NUKE for external applications. New Spline and Grip Warpers, 3D particles, a Planar Tracker, new Denoise and audio scratch track all improve fluidity and flexibility of workflow, saving artists time.
NUKE 6.3 introduces for the first time a new Deep Compositing pipeline, allowing artists to work with deep data from 3D renders, supporting new ways to approach visual effects and more control when integrating and finishing CG rendered elements.

BRIGHT TECHNOLOGIES
Bright Technologies Inc introduced significant improvements to their BrightDrive G2 Media File Server, adding great new Admin and Monitoring GUI interface, making it easy for System Admins and other BrightDrive users to easily monitor their server from anywhere in the world.
Also introduced at NAB 2011 was the BrightDrive Ascella, an all-in-one box: storage, meta-data server plus the intelligence of BrightDrive - all in one convenient and affordable box!
NEW SALES
The Post Bangkok installs a 4GPU, Linux-based DaVinci Resolve as their new, commercial grading room. This works in tandem with a Mac-based DaVinci Resolve which they use as an assistant station. Both systems use the DaVinci Resolve Database server to centrally store and share Resolve project information. A Blackmagic Design Ultrascope completes the grading setup. In addition, they have upgraded their BrightDrive setup with an additional 64TB dual-stream 2k workspace and a 16TB single-stream 2k workspace, both configured with BrightClip support.
The School of Audio Engineering (SAE) in Bangkok has added a DaVinci Resolve which will be used as part of their Diploma in Digital Film Making, making it one of a handful of courses in the region to incorporate colour grading as part of their curriculum.
The Media Village is pleased to have played a supporting role in the setup of The Mill, overseeing the system integration work and supplying Smoke for Mac and NukeX to their facility in Singapore.
CG Protege Animation School, a leading quality provider of WSQ accredited training programmes recognised by the Workforce Development Agency of Singapore, has added 11 Nuke licenses to their setup.
fluidpost in Manila and Digital Arts Pro in Jakarta add to the ever-growing ist of DaVinci Resolve users in Southeast Asia.
The Moving Images Company in Singapore add Smoke for Mac to their post production pipeline.
UCI in Thailand have purchased a 24TB Facilis Terrablock 24D. They have 6 direct-connect FC clients (Adobe Premiere Pro) and several other graphic workstations connected via Ethernet. It has the shared filesystem option for multi-write volume access.
